Bringing you the best disc recommendations

But before we get into my recommendations, I’ve got to admit to you that I’m not a woman and I probably won’t ever be one.

So the question you might ask yourself is: why would I take disc recommendation advice for women from a man?

Great question…so here’s your answer.

First, I’ve built a pretty epic blog here on DiscgolfNOW.com. I’ve tailored my site to help out all disc golfers of every skill level, no matter the gender. If you need help improving, or need some good disc recommendations, DiscgolfNOW.com has you covered.

Second, because you ladies are well connected. If I can help you all out, you probably have some friends that you can introduce to disc golf. And that helps to #growthesport.

Third, because my wife has taken an interest in disc golf. She doesn’t play that much, but she will ride out on occasion. And I noticed fairly quickly that she was having a lot of trouble with the discs she was using…my discs. She needed some good tips for improving as well as some good recommendations for discs and I honestly had no idea how to help her.

So after I scoured the internet, I first made a list of awesome tips for women. I wrote a post for her that you can read below ⬇️.

“11 Best Disc Golf Tips for Women: How to Crush it This Year!”

After that, I looked through every resource that I could find on the internet to come up with a list of the best disc golf discs for women. With this list, I was able to find a few of the best discs for my wife. That’s the list that I’m giving you in this post.

The last reason that you should take my recommendations is because my female audience deserves some epic tips and disc recommendations. YOU deserve some epic content. That’s exactly what I’m bringing to the table with my tips post and this disc recommendations post. YOU deserve some awesome content. So here it is…

Why I chose these discs/what women should look for in a disc

There are certain characteristics that women should look for in a disc. Most of these characteristics are due to physical limitations when you first start playing, but a couple of the things you’re looking for in a disc are due to just being a new disc golfer. Here’s what I’m talking about and what to look for when trying to pick out discs:

1. Disc selection

When my wife first started playing with me, I knew almost immediately that disc selection was going to be important. Because she was having a lot of trouble throwing my discs that I recommended. I was giving her beginner discs, but they were the wrong discs. That’s when I started looking into what discs she was going to need.

Why? Because disc selection is SO important for women when you first start playing. If you simply start playing with any disc, it will probably be the wrong disc. You have to actively seek out certain discs and choose those discs for your disc golf game. Disc selection is important for 4 reasons.

• Disc speed: newer players, especially newer female players, need slower discs. The speed of a disc, or the first number in a disc’s flight ratings (the four numbers on the front of a disc), represents how fast a disc must be thrown. The speed rating can be 1-15, with 15 being the fastest. As a newer female player, you want discs with a speed of less then 8 or 9. Those are much easier to throw and will fly decently well.

You can learn more about flight ratings in my post, “What Do the Numbers on a Disc Golf Disc Mean?”

• Understability (more turn/less fade): newer players in general need to throw understable discs. Understable simply means that a disc will turn more to the right for right handed backhand throwers, will fly straighter for longer, and is just generally easier for newer players. For right handed players, turn makes a disc turn more to the right and has flight ratings of -5 to +1 (-5 means more turn – you’re looking for turn between -3 and 0). For right handed players, fade makes a disc fade more to the left and has flight ratings of 0 to +5 (+5 means the most fade – you want fade between 0 and 1 or just 0). An easy reference would be that you want discs with more high speed turn and less low-speed fade. That makes a disc understable.

• Disc weight: for women, the weight of a disc is VERY important. Because you might not have the strength to throw heavier discs at first, you want to find lighter discs if at all possible. As you build up your skill and your strength, you’ll easily be able to handle heavier discs. But as a newer female player, I recommend finding discs that are between 140-160 grams. These discs are lighter than normal and will help you transition up into heavier discs.

• Rim size: depending on the size of your hands, you may have to address rim size when looking for discs. Women often have smaller hands than men and so this can play a part in what discs you will have to throw. Try to find discs with smaller rim sizes if possible, if this is an issue for you. Otherwise, just check out the list of recommendations below. Those discs are great selections for women (and most of the rim sizes are smaller).

2. Keep it simple

Next up, here’s a simple tip when it comes to finding discs for your bag – don’t overload yourself with discs and choices in your bag. Keep it simple. When first starting out, find 3-4 discs and improve your disc golf game with those discs. A lot of disc golfers will tell you to pick out enough discs to fill up your bag, but this is bad advice. I’d rather you get good with 3-4 discs instead of decent or okay at 12-15 discs. Master 3-4 discs and learn the game.

3. Love ’em or leave ’em

My last tip on disc selection is going to be subjective to each person. Each disc golfer will have a different opinion on how they like each disc they throw. My last tip is is something that I always play by: only use discs that you really like to play with. If you get a recommendation, but just really don’t like how the disc feels or flies, get rid of it. I only have discs in my bag that I really like to throw. If I don’t like them, I don’t use them.

Alright, so let’s check out the 11 best disc golf discs for women!

Putters

When it comes to putters, the choice is really up to each individual person on what disc you like to throw. Because putters don’t vary much in speed or stability. Most putters are slow and fly fairly straight. Why? Because putters are designed to be used for putting into the basket and short approach shots. There are a few newer putters that are built for more distance, but you can’t really go wrong with putters. Stay away from putters with too much stability (those with a high fade rating). But other than that, whatever you pick will probably be okay.

My #1 Overall Pick – Dynamic Discs Judge

11 Best Disc Golf Discs for Women [2024 Edition] | DiscGolfNOW.com (1)

Flight ratings: 2, 4, 0, 1

Rim depth: 1.4 cm

Rim width: 1.1 cm

The Judge is hands down my favorite putter. Ever since I first picked it up, I have loved it for almost every situation on the course except for driving. It’s decent as a driving putter, but exceptional for putting and approach shots. As for women using the Judge – it doesn’t require much speed and it stays straight during flight. BUT it does have the largest rim size of the three putters on this list. However, that doesn’t change my recommendation as this disc is hardly any bigger than the next two putters. Definitely grab a Judge here on InfiniteDiscs.com.

2. Discraft Magnet

11 Best Disc Golf Discs for Women [2024 Edition] | DiscGolfNOW.com (2)

Flight ratings: 2, 3, -1, 2

Rim depth: 0.8 cm

Rim width: 0.8 cm

The Magnet is an exceptional putter from Discraft. This disc is fairly stable, so it will fly straight and usually will hold any line you put it on. Also, this disc is perfect for women, especially those with smaller than normal hands like my wife. With a rim depth and width of 0.8 cm, this thing is very easy to hold onto and even easier to throw. If that’s what you need in a disc, check it out here on InfiniteDiscs.com.

3. Innova Aviar

11 Best Disc Golf Discs for Women [2024 Edition] | DiscGolfNOW.com (3)

Flight ratings: 3, 2.5, 0, 1

Rim depth: 1.3 cm

Rim width: 1.1 cm

The Aviar is one of those trusty discs that almost everyone loves. It’s just a ridiculously reliable disc. I mean, Aviars have always flown really well for me. Women will benefit from the reliability, control, and stability of the disc. The rim depth is also fairly small, at 1.3 cm, so it’s a good disc for smaller hands. It checks all of the boxes. It’s not my favorite putter, but it’s easily one of my top recommendations just because of how easy it is to throw and how well it flies. Grab one here on Discgolfunited.com.

4. Latitude 64 Ruby

11 Best Disc Golf Discs for Women [2024 Edition] | DiscGolfNOW.com (4)

Flight ratings: 3, 5, -3, 1

Rim depth: 1.4

Rim width: 1.0

The Ruby is fun, y’all. It’s one of the most – if not the most – understable putters on the market today. This is a perfect starter putter that women will love due to it’s size and ease of use. It’s actually a part of Latitude 64’s “Easy to Use” lineup of discs that you can see here. This thing will also fly for a long time due to its great glide (glide = how long a disc can stay in the air). Awesome disc. Grab yours here on InfiniteDiscs.com.

Mid-range discs

Mid-range discs are so fun to throw. Mid-range discs are similar to putters but are meant for longer shots and can get you quite a bit of distance. The downside for newer players is that they are just a bit harder to throw. But not much. I recommend mid-range discs to new players all the time. So let’s check ’em out.

5. Discraft Buzzz

11 Best Disc Golf Discs for Women [2024 Edition] | DiscGolfNOW.com (5)

Flight ratings: 5, 4, -1, 1

Rim depth: 1.3

Rim width: 1.2

The Buzzz is hands down one of the best disc golf discs ever made. I mean, it’s just a fantastic disc that can benefit almost every disc golfer in some way. Whenever I take someone new out to the course, I give them a Buzzz and let ’em play. My wife liked the Buzzz but needed a lighter version of it. So if you’re a newer female player, try to find this disc under 160 grams if possible. Otherwise, it’s a great disc. Find yours here on InfiniteDiscs.com.

6. Westside Discs Tursas

11 Best Disc Golf Discs for Women [2024 Edition] | DiscGolfNOW.com (6)

Flight ratings: 5, 5, -2, 1

Rim depth: 1.3

Rim width: 1.4

The Tursas is another really fun mid-range disc for newer players. It’s fairly understable so it shouldn’t be tough for female players. And it has good glide as well during flight. The rim size is just a tiny bit bigger than the Buzzz but that shouldn’t keep you from trying it. Grab yourself a Tursas here on InfiniteDiscs.com.

7. Dynamic Discs Truth

11 Best Disc Golf Discs for Women [2024 Edition] | DiscGolfNOW.com (7)

Flight ratings: 5, 5, -1, 1

Rim depth: 1.2

Rim width: 1.5

This disc is the Truth. No, really, it’s the Dynamic Discs Truth and it’s an awesome mid-range disc for players of all skill levels. This disc was molded to go straight and can easily become your go-to mid-range. Female players will love the Truth, as it is a small disc, has decent grip in all plastics, and really holds your lines well. But make sure you don’t get the EMac Truth because that’s too overstable for newer players. Find your truth here on InfiniteDiscs.com.

8. MVP Tangent

11 Best Disc Golf Discs for Women [2024 Edition] | DiscGolfNOW.com (8)

Flight ratings: 4, 4, -0.5, 0

Rim depth: 1.3

Rim width: 1.2

The Tangent is my last mid-range recommendation on this list, but I promise you that this is still a great mid-range. This disc flies super straight and feels great in the double mold. This disc is awesome for newer players, especially new female disc golfers. Grab a Tangent here on InfiniteDiscs.com.

Control drivers

Control drivers are gonna be a little bit tougher than mid-range discs but you’ll eventually need something to that can get you distance on the disc golf course. I’d recommend putters and mid-range discs at first, but you’ll soon work your way into control drivers, so I’d go ahead and get one once you get started playing. Let’s check out the three recommendations below.

9. Latitude 64 Diamond

11 Best Disc Golf Discs for Women [2024 Edition] | DiscGolfNOW.com (9)

Flight ratings: 8, 6, -3, 1

Rim depth: 1.1

Rim width: 1.8

The Diamond is my #1 control driver recommendation for female disc golfers. Why? Because it’s just such a well-made disc and is recommended all the time by current female disc golfers. In all of the forum posts I read on discgolfscene.com and reddit.com in the r/discgolf subreddit, this disc was the #1 recommendation in the control driver category. It’s an excellent starter driver and can easily become your go-to distance disc until you’re able to move up to harder discs.
I mean, Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, right? Get yours here on InfiniteDiscs.com.

10. Innova Leopard

11 Best Disc Golf Discs for Women [2024 Edition] | DiscGolfNOW.com (10)

Flight ratings: 6, 5, -2, 1

Rim depth: 1.1

Rim width: 1.6

I’m a huge fan of the Leopard. It is probably the easiest control driver on the market right now. It’s easy to throw, easy to control, and doesn’t require much speed at all on it. This would’ve been my top control driver recommendation if the Diamond had not been recommended by so many people. But the Leopard is probably the best disc on this list for women with weaker arms, as it’s only a 6 speed disc. I mean, this is a true beginner driver that most new players can use after just a round or two. But you’ll probably outgrow this disc after a little bit of practice. Good disc, though. Grab yourself one here on Discgolfunited.com.

11. Dynamic Discs Breakout

11 Best Disc Golf Discs for Women [2024 Edition] | DiscGolfNOW.com (11)

Flight ratings: 8, 5, -1, 1.5

Rim depth: 1.1

Rim width: 1.9

The Breakout is a decent control driver recommended by a lot of different disc golfers including disc golf pro Tina Stanaitis of Team Dynamic Discs. It’s slightly understable, allowing newer players to gain a ton of distance on their drives with this disc. If you’re a female player, the Breakout is a solid choice that can really help you step up your disc golf game. If that’s what you’re looking for, grab one here on InfiniteDiscs.com.

But wait…no distance drivers?

That’s right! I know you may be wondering why I didn’t put any distance drivers on this list. But stick with me.

Distance drivers have to be thrown very hard and fast in order to fly correctly and most newer players, guys included, don’t have the arm speed for these discs. So I really recommend you start with only putters and mid-range discs. Grabbing a control driver is okay, but I wouldn’t go up more than that at first.

Just skip the distance drivers until your technique is decent and you can throw a control driver with complete accuracy and consistency.

Let’s wrap this up

Hopefully I’ve been able to help you find a decent selection of discs to start out with. All the discs on this list are perfect for female players and can be utilized to improve and perfect your disc golf game. So grab a few discs, hit the course, and play some disc golf!
